EFCC Raids Obasanjo Presidential Library Hotel During Pool Party, Arrests Suspected Fraudsters

Some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raided the Green Legacy Hotel, located within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and arrested an unspecified number of suspected internet fraudsters. The operation took place in the early hours of Sunday during a pool party at the library premises. It came less than a week after the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the commission arrested a suspected internet fraudster with two locally made pistols during a raid at K-Hotel in the Itori area of the Ewekoro area of the state. The EFCC said the suspect was among 55 others arrested on Wednesday. A viral video from the Sunday raid showed youths fleeing as gunshots rang out. Operatives reportedly seized “more than 20 luxury cars and other valuable items.” According to The PUNCH, sources said EFCC operatives from the Lagos Directorate carried out the operation. An X user, A. Ayomide, wrote, “Literally left my house past midnight to go to OOPL, got there, and the crowd was too much. I don’t like the settings, and my guy doesn’t like the settings, so we were just at the car park. “Left around 1:30; 20 minutes later I get home, and I’m getting calls that EFCC is raiding OOPL.” The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the incident to The PUNCH, saying, “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out, and we will let you know.” SaharaReporters’ attempt to confirm the incident from EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, was unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls and messages at the time of filing this report.
